Richard had lost all of his teeth when he was younger and the only option he had was to wear dentures. He had a number of issues with his dentures over the years and eventually could not end up wearing them. The dentures prohibited him from eating everyday foods such as apples. In addition his confidence was extremely low and he wouldn't smile in public.
