Beware of clinics offering twilight sedation procedures for All-On-4 dental implants.

Beware of clinics offering twilight sedation procedures for All-On-4 Plus® dental implants.

Twilight sedation reduces coughing and other reflexes, increasing the risk of choking on water or small hardware components during surgery.

In some cases, performing the procedure under local anaesthetic may be sufficient. However, when sedation is necessary, it is far safer to undergo the procedure under General Anaesthetic while fully asleep. This ensures that the airways are protected, and a specialist anaesthetist is present to monitor your condition throughout.

Why General Anaesthetic in a Dental Environment is Ideal

While some believe that having All-On-4 Plus® dental implant procedures in a hospital setting is advantageous, it may not always be ideal. Hospital beds are flat, limiting the surgeon’s ability to perform the intricate surgery and restorative work required for All-On-4 Plus® procedures. Furthermore, the anaesthetic methods commonly used in hospitals—such as volatile anaesthetic combined with paralysing agents—can lead to a longer recovery period and more side effects. This is not conducive to the All-On-4 Plus® process, which requires a quick recovery to enable the same-day try-in of teeth.

The optimal solution is to choose a clinic equipped with a General Anaesthetic facility within the dental environment. This setup allows specialist anaesthetists to provide care while ensuring the procedure is performed in a setting tailored specifically for All-On-4 Plus® dental implant treatments.

The Importance of an Onsite Laboratory

For a seamless experience, the clinic should have an onsite laboratory. This ensures that every step—from surgery to the fabrication of the teeth—is efficient and precise. Adjustments can be made immediately, allowing for the delivery of your custom-designed teeth within 24 hours.

Important Note

All surgical procedures carry risks, including infection or implant failure. Individual recovery times vary based on age, systemic health, and smoking status. Please follow the specific post-operative instructions provided by your All On 4 Plus® Clinician.
