Quick Answer

Investing in custom-milled zirconia and titanium frameworks can be more cost-effective over the long term than cheaper acrylic (plastic) alternatives. These premium materials are selected for their strength, durability and resistance to staining, making them a common choice for permanent full-arch restorations.

Zirconia

Exceptional durability, natural appearance and resistance to staining and wear.

Titanium

Provides additional strength and support within a full-arch prosthesis.

Acrylic (PMMA) with a titanium bar

Lightweight, comfortable during the initial healing phase and gentle on healing tissues.

Overview

The material used for an All-On-4 Plus® prosthesis influences how the restoration looks, feels, functions and holds up over time. While several restorative materials are available, each offers different characteristics in terms of durability, appearance and maintenance.

Acrylic (PMMA) with a titanium bar is commonly used for the immediate temporary prosthesis placed on the day of surgery. It is lightweight, comfortable during the initial healing phase and gentle on healing tissues. However, it is less durable than zirconia, may stain or wear over time, and typically requires replacement after 5–7 years.

Zirconia has become the gold standard for permanent All-On-4 Plus® restorations because of its exceptional durability, natural appearance and resistance to staining and wear. It is non-porous, meaning it does not absorb stains or odours, and can be designed to closely resemble natural enamel. With proper care, zirconia restorations may last for many years.

Titanium frameworks provide additional strength and support within a full-arch prosthesis. In the All-On-4 Plus® Immediate Final Teeth™ system, the titanium framework connects the implants together and helps spread pressure across the restoration while healing takes place.

The choice of restorative material is made during the treatment planning process. Your All-On-4 Plus® Premium Provider will consider factors such as your bite, whether you grind or clench your teeth, your functional needs, your aesthetic goals and your long-term expectations when recommending the most appropriate option.
