Overview
Bone grafting may be recommended when there is not enough jawbone to support dental implants in the planned position. This can be done during surgery using artifical or bovine bone and are placed by your surgeon at the same time as placing your implants. By doing this, immediate loading can occur 1 - 7 days after surgery, instead of having to wait months to have bone grafting procedures done before getting your implants placed.
With All-On-4 Plus® treatment, careful planning, digital imaging and precise implant positioning are used to create a stable foundation for the implants.
In many cases, this allows patients to receive fixed teeth shortly after surgery, while healing continues beneath the surface.
This does not mean healing is complete straight away. The gums, bone and surrounding tissues still need time to recover. Patients must still follow post-operative instructions, maintain a soft-food diet and avoid placing excessive pressure on the implants during the healing period.
The right approach depends on each patient’s bone structure, oral health, medical history and treatment needs. Your All-On-4 Plus® clinician will assess whether you will need bone grafting as an add on to your surgery.
Common Questions
Read common questions we get asked comparing healing with a bone graft vs immediate loading.
Bone grafting is a procedure used to rebuild and strengthen jawbone structure, where bone volume is insufficient to support dental implants.
Immediate loading means fixed teeth ( Immediate Final Teeth) are attached shortly after implant placement ( surgery), rather than waiting several months before teeth are fitted. At All On 4 Plus®, patient will recieve their Immediate Final Teeth within 1-7 days after surgery.
No. Immediate loading occurs 1 -7 days after surgery, however full healing and integration of the implants ( osseointegration) takes 4 months from surgery. Even when fixed teeth are attached early, healing continues beneath the gums and the implants still require time to settle during the recovery process.
In most cases yes as this is how the All On 4 Plus® process is designed. However if a patient is having other work done alongside All On 4 Plus® dental implants, there may need to be a wait period.
Careful implant positioning helps create a stable foundation and placement for the new teeth and is important for the healing process.
Patients should follow their clinician’s post-operative instructions. These mainly include eating a softer-food diet for 4 months, clean carefully and regularly and avoid excessive pressure on the implants while healing continues.
