Overview
Healing after All-on-4 Plus® surgery occurs in stages. While patients often receive fixed teeth shortly after surgery, the implants still require time to biologically integrate with the jawbone under the surface.
In the first one to two weeks, the focus is on soft tissue healing, reducing swelling, and recovering from surgery. During the following months, the bone gradually bonds with the implants through a process known as osseointegration.
This healing phase is important for long-term implant stability. During this period, patients are typically advised to follow a soft-food diet and attend regular follow-up visits to ensure appropriate monitoring of healing.
Most patients progressively return to normal function as healing continues, with final restorations generally placed once integration and stability have been confirmed.
How long does healing take after All-On-4 Plus® surgery?
Initial healing generally occurs within the first few weeks, while full bone integration typically takes several months.
What is osseointegration?
Osseointegration is the process by which the jawbone gradually bonds with the implant surface, helping create a stable foundation for replacement teeth.
Will I have teeth during the healing period?
In many cases, patients receive fixed teeth shortly after surgery, while the implants continue to heal beneath the surface.
Why is a soft food diet important?
Soft foods help reduce pressure on the implants during the early healing stages while the bone is still integrating with them.
What can affect healing?
Various factors can influence healing, including smoking, oral hygiene, medical conditions and adherence to post-operative instructions.
When are the final teeth fitted?
Final restorations are generally fitted once healing and implant stability have been confirmed, often several months after surgery.
